Courses and Activities

The Pró-Reitoria de Cultura e Extensão Universitária is responsible for offering and managing the university extension courses and activities in its various forms, following specific rules. These courses and activities are classified as follows:

Continued Education and Post-Graduation

Courses involving hands-on training or post-academic apprenticeship. From a professional point of view, they are a series of efforts that are necessary so that the professional can keep up with the changes in his or her area of activity.

Especialização (Specialisation) 

The Curso de Especialização is a category of lato sensu post-graduation course, with a minimum duration of 360 hours. It must be constituted as an organized system of one or more subjects, aiming at the qualification of professionals in a specific field of knowledge. Its technical and professional nature enables interested people to deepen their knowledge and competencies in a specific area, improving graduation teaching.

Aperfeiçoamento (Improvement)

With a minimum course load of 180 hours, the Curso de Aperfeiçoamento is an organized system of one or more subjects, ministered only to graduated students, to expand their knowledge in specific fields of professional activities.

Atualização (Updating)

It is aimed at spreading the progress of knowledge in specific areas or disciplines. With a minimum course load of 30 hours, it is destined for people interested in reviewing and improving their professional activities as well as interacting with other professionals in the same field. They are destined for those who want to amplify their knowledge in their area of interest or to get to know new areas of activity, improving their professional qualification.

Vocational Training

Activities that aim at qualifying, developing, or improving job-specific skills set it apart from the Educação Continuada (Continued Education) activities by the eminently practical nature developed in its formation programs through on-the-job training.

Prática Profissionalizante (Professionalizing Practice)

The Prática Profissionalizante aims at improving the performance of professional activity. Destined to healthcare professionals who want to increase their knowledge in a specific area, with a recycling system, to get a specific and defined improvement, destined and applied in a professional job of personal nature or a university institutional activity.

Programa de atualização (Updating Program)

The Programa de Atualização aims at developing knowledge or technique in a specific area or discipline and it is designed for the general public, without a minimum education requirement.

Residência (Residency)

The Residência aims at deepening scientific knowledge and technical expertise through on-the-job training. The residency in the healthcare field, which was created following the publication of Law No 11.129, in 2005, is a category of lato sensu post-graduation course, with a minimum course load of 5760 hours, oriented by the principles and guidelines of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), based on local and regional needs and realities, and it includes healthcare professions, such as Biomedicine, Biological Sciences, Physical Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Veterinary Medicine, Nutrition, Odontology, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Medical Physics.

The residency can be:

Categoria Multiprofissional (Multiprofessional Category) – the program is composed of at least three healthcare professions and a Residency in the Professional Healthcare Field.

Categoria Uniprofissional – the program is composed of one healthcare profession, according to the Resolution CNRMS No. 02, from 2012.

Diffusion

The Curso de Difusão, which has a minimum course load of four hours, is an artistic, cultural, scientific, technical, technological, or sporting dissemination activity and is destined for the general public, without a minimum education requirement.
