After years of hard work, the reward is abandonment and neglect. A decent life in retirement, unfortunately, is not a reality for most, and the lack of financial support is an undeniable aggravation. Debates about the lives of those who seem to have no place in the world have reignited in Brazil with recent political movements towards a Social Security Reform.
In tune with the current moment, CINUSP presents the “Divina Previdência” (Divine Social Security) Film Festival, in theaters from July 22 to August 11. The selected films explore the hardships and hassles of the elderly when their material and social survival is threatened. Part social criticism, part an invitation to question the direction of the social security in the country, this show comes as a warning not to fall into scourges disguised as divine blessings. The sessions are free and take place from Monday to Friday at the Cidade Universitária – Campus Butantã, and on weekends at the Maria Antônia Center.
