USP offers more than 2 thousand free activities and courses for the 60+ public

Pró-Reitoria de Cultura e Extensão Universitária - 02/16/2023

Regular subjects and complementary actions in the first semester of 2023 cover areas such as engineering, education, health, and communication, as well as physical and cultural activities

USP opens registration for the first semester of 2023 of the USP 60+ program on February 27. Now in its 55th edition, the free initiative, which takes place in the capital and on campuses in the countryside, offers places divided between regular subjects, offered in USP’s undergraduate courses, and complementary activities, which include courses, lectures, excursions, sports, and didactic-cultural practices.

The list of vacancies and how to register will be available from February 27 on the website extensao.usp.br/usp60. Those interested don’t need to be affiliated with the university and must be over 60.

There are 257 activities in various areas of knowledge. For doctor Egídio Dórea, coordinator of the program, “Participation in one of the open university activities goes beyond the acquisition of information: greater social participation, physical and mental well-being, as well as reducing the risks of loneliness and social isolation”.

In the first half of 2023, activities will return to face-to-face, in compliance with all safety rules.

Sales promotion; Principles of Economics Applied to Communication; Rural Construction and technical drawing and Notions of Statistics; Geomatics and the Politics and Organization of Basic Education in Brazil are among the courses available, which are taught at USP campuses in Bauru, Lorena, Piracicaba, Pirassununga, Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos and São Paulo. Some subjects require a prerequisite, but for the majority, nothing is required.

There will also be physical activities exclusively for the elderly, such as stretching, as well as cultural activities with experts from various fields.

Created by Professor Ecléa Bosi in 1994, the program, which has been running for 28 years, is an initiative of Pró-Reitoria de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da USP.
