The “Óleo sobre tela” program highlights the encounters of artists from different eras with cinema
By Fabio Rubira
The Cinema da USP (Cinusp) presents until July 16 the film showcase Óleo Sobre Tela. They are free screenings of films about art, inspired by it or with plots about great painters of history and their famous works.
The invitation is for the public to “enjoy the encounter” of paint on the big screen. “Whether through the recreation of paintings, aesthetic experimentation or the portrait of artists who form a canon, the influence that painting exerts on the seventh art leaves its mark on the form and content of what we watch”, explains the curator.
Among the highlights, “O Mistério de Picasso“, a 1956 French production with a documentary character about the famous Spanish painter. In “Caravaggio“, the British director and artist Derek Jarman proposes a look at the renowned Italian painter from the memories of his personal life and artistic career. “Com Amor, Van Vogh“, on the other hand, pays homage to the great Dutch painter.
In the national “Filme de Amor“, inspired by the Greek myth of the three graces, Júlio Bressane makes a reinterpretation of what was an important aesthetic ideal for art for centuries, from a meeting of three friends from Rio de Janeiro. The classic “O Retrato de Jeannie“, from 1948, highlights the story of a failed painter in New York who has his life radically changed when he meets his inspiring muse.
