The course will discuss issues related to visions of the female body and subjectivity, as well as the power relations at stake
The Centro Maria Antonia from USP is holding a free course on Representações do feminino no filme de dança (Representations of the feminine in dance films) starting on March 21. Taught by dance researcher Jane Oliveira, it is divided into four meetings, always on Tuesdays, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. With 100 places, online registrations on USP’s Sistema Apolo are available via the link e.usp.br/n4- until March 10.
The course aims to analyze from a feminist perspective three dance films produced by renowned contemporary dance choreographers from the United States and Europe, and a Brazilian documentary. Jane explains that she “intends to discuss and move the issues related to visions of the body and female subjectivity, as well as analyzing the power relations that echo from the works studied”.
The route will take us from the 1960s to the present day, passing through works by Martha Graham, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Win Vandekeybus, and Jérôme Bel, seeking to detect the changes, achievements, and obstacles in the way women are presented/represented and/or are presented/represented in dance productions on the Western scene.
Students with at least 75% attendance will receive a certificate of participation.
