The Centro MariAntonia of USP will hold a free course on Perspectivas de Estudos de Violência Contra a Mulher Negra (Perspectives on Studies of Violence Against Black Women) starting July 31. Taught by the activist, researcher in gender studies, and writer, Carla Akotirene, it is divided into three consecutive meetings, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 9 am to 12 pm. With 150 vacancies, online registrations in the USP Apolo system are made through the link e.usp.br/oan until July 21.
The course will bring a literature review on the thought of whiteness in Brazil and the USA, its various theoretical approaches, as well as the main analytical-epistemological categories of race and culture; gender, intersectionality, and violence. According to Akotirene “the intention is to consider the theoretical, historical and political context of the analytical category race in the production and diffusion of epistemic racism, in the feminist struggle and promotion of public policies”.
Students who have at least 75% attendance will receive a certificate of participation.
