O mundo está cheio de nós is a popular performance, with live music, whose scenography is a small circus-theater, with elements that expose the performance itself. The dramaturgy, written in a collaborative process, is by Sérgio de Carvalho, who also directs the performance.
The play follows the journey of Valéria Dim, a prostitute from the Liberdade neighborhood in São Paulo, her wanderings between the city’s rich and poor neighborhoods, her emotional encounters and disagreements, and her nonconformity with the standards of the labor market. The script is freely inspired by Federico Fellini’s film Noites de Cabíria (written in partnership with Pier Paolo Pasolini) and images from Brecht’s poems.
Lugar Nenhum, written by Sérgio de Carvalho with the collaboration of the cast, is a play inspired by texts by Russian writer Anton Chekhov. It premiered in Rio de Janeiro in 2018, when the group was celebrating its 21st anniversary. It was published in book form in 2019 by Temporal and, the following year, by Conjunto magazine (Cuba), after being translated into Spanish. In 2022, the show was presented at the São Palco Festival in Portugal.
The plot takes place in a beach house near Paraty, built on the ruins of a colonial farm, where a family of intellectualized artists meet to celebrate their son’s birthday. A decadent filmmaker, a successful actress staging a play by Ibsen, a musician who was imprisoned during the dictatorship, and a liberal journalist are the characters of this social group confined for a weekend at the beach.
Ideological debates about art and politics in Brazil are mixed in with everyday life’s petty damage and violence. The play also reflects on the theater itself, in which the stage construction procedures are revealed to the audience through the comments of one of the characters.
The Companhia do Latão no TUSP season in 2023 marks the resumption of the group’s activities in São Paulo after three years, the year in which it will celebrate its 27th anniversary.
Acting Dramaturgy Workshop
The intensive workshop, taught by the Companhia do Latão team and coordinated by actress Helena Albergaria, involves practical work based on improvisation and scene analysis. Exercises in relational imagination and theatrical games to feed dramaturgical creation in acting are combined with experiments aimed at developing a realistic attitude.
The target audience is actresses and actors, professional and amateur, and other stage artists who are interested in and available for practical acting work. The activity is free and will be held from February 13 to 16, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm, in the Sala Multiuso of USP’s Centro MariAntonia. Applications can be made until February 5, using the application form, and the shortlist will be announced on February 7.
