Photography contest will selects the best images of USP’s cultural heritage

Centro de Preservação Cultural - 04/05/2023
By Centro de Preservação Cultural da USP

For those who like to take pictures, Centro de Preservação Cultural (CPC) da USP – Casa de Dona Yayá is launching the “Images in Heritage” photographic competition, with USP’s university heritage as its theme. Participation is free and open to anyone over the age of 18, with or without ties to the University. Registration is now open and runs until June 1, 2023, using an electronic form. Click here to access.

According to Prof. Flávia Brito do Nascimento, director of the CPC-USP and coordinator of the project, “the contest is a way of encouraging contact with the University and making the great diversity of material and immaterial cultural heritage present on the various USP campuses and units better known”. Much more than buildings, monuments and collections, this heritage is also represented in university life, in places where people socialize, in student traditions and even in classrooms and laboratories, where academic practice takes place.

As defined in the USP Heritage Charter, drawn up by the CPC-USP: “university cultural assets include, but are not limited to, the manifestations and cultural references linked to the practices of teaching, research, extension and university life, promoted by students, professors and employees of the University, as well as by society external to it, such as festivals, places, landscapes and celebrations; routines, practices, ways of doing things, creating and academic traditions; archival, museological and bibliographic collections in analog and digital formats; spaces, sites and architectural and urban ensembles; places of memory and consciousness and landscapes; scientific, artistic and technological creations. “

The competition has five categories for entries: Celebrations, Forms of Expression, Places, Objects and Buildings and Knowledge, in the Individual (one photo) and Essay (2 to 3 photos) categories. The selected photographs will make up an exhibition to be held at Casa de Dona Yayá and will be published in publications and on social media. Each of the five categories will award one photo or one essay as the winner, and each winner will receive a R$ 500.00 voucher from the Editora da Universidade de São Paulo (EDUSP).

The edict with all the guidelines for the Imagens em Patrimônio contest is on the CPC-USP website. Those interested can also follow the @imagem_em_patrimonio profile on Instagram, which will publish various special content about USP’s cultural heritage.
