Course focuses on relations between Brazilian and international design

Brazilian design production and its influences on international practice are discussed in a free course

From September 4, Centro MariAntonia of USP will be holding the free course Pequena história do design: transferências culturais. Taught by Professor Ethel Leon, it is divided into six face-to-face meetings, always on Mondays, from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. With 75 vacancies available, online registration on USP’s Apolo system is available at http://e.usp.br/omk until August 25. The course aims to reflect on the practice of Brazilian design and its relationship with international production, presenting some important moments in which Brazilian production dialogued with international production in the design of furniture and other two- and three-dimensional artifacts of everyday life.

Students with at least 75% attendance will receive a certificate of participation.

About the professor
Ethel Leon has a PhD from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo (FAU) at the Universidade de São Paulo and is a professor of Design History. She was editor of the electronic design magazine Agitprop (2008-2015) and author of the books Memórias do Design Brasileiro, (Senac SP, 2009); IAC, primeira escola de design do Brasil (Blucher, 2014), Canasvieiras, um laboratório para o design brasileiro (Udesc/Fapesc, 2015), organizer and co-author of the book Michel Arnoult, design e utopia (Sesc, awarded the Rumos Itaú Cultural Project, 2016) and co-author of the book Marcenaria Baraúna (Olhares, 2017) and gute Form, Boa Forma (Act, 2022). She is the organizer of Julio Katinsky Reflexões sobre o Desenho Industrial (Olhares, 2022). Her doctoral thesis and the books IAC, Michel Arnoult and Marcenaria Baraúna were awarded the Prêmio Design Museu da Casa Brasileira.
