On Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m., French writer Fabienne Brugère, a Philosophy professor at the University Paris 8 Vincennes Saint-Denis, will give a free lecture on “Morisot, Manet and the others: the true story of Impressionism,” the theme of her latest book. The event is held in partnership with the Consulate General of France in São Paulo.
The discussant will be Alex Moura, a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters, and Human Sciences (FFLCH) of USP, and the moderator Alessandro Francisco from the Collège International de Philosophie in France.
Who is Fabienne Brugère
Professor of Philosophy at the University Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis since September 2014. Before that, she taught at the University Bordeaux-Montaigne. From November 2019 to November 2023, she held the presidency of the University Paris-Lumières. She has been a visiting professor at various foreign universities, including Hamburg, Munich, and Quebec. She is currently a visiting professor at the Institute of Arts of Unesp for the Franco-Brazilian Chair Arts, Esthétique et Société, established in partnership with the Embassy of France. Her research focuses on the fields of philosophy of art and moral and political philosophy, with studies on the public space of art in the 18th century, the link between ethics and politics in contemporary Anglo-American philosophy, feminist theory, and the question of democracy. Among her publications, highlights include L’éthique du care (PUF, 2011), On ne naît pas femme, on le devient (Stock, 2019), and, with Guillaume le Blanc, La fin de l’hospitalité (Flammarion, 2017) and Le peuple des femmes. Un tour du monde féministe (Flammarion, 2020). Her latest book is La vraie histoire de l’impressionnisme. Manet, Morisot et les autres (Vrin, 2024). In April 2015, Fabienne Brugère was awarded the title of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
