The Orquestra Sinfônica da USP (Osusp) begins the month of July with a concert that brings a bit of Argentine culture to the stage of USP’s Camargo Guarnieri Cultural Center. The fifth concert of the Sculpting Time series will feature Argentine musicians Luis Gorelik, conducting, and Eduardo Isaac, in the guitar solo. The free presentation will be held on July 1, at 4 pm, and tickets can be purchased in advance online on the appticket platform.
In Esculpir o Tempo, which brings guests for conducting and solo, the programs were assembled on the triad: the tradition – the national – the contemporary. The foreign guest maestros will always bring something special and typical of their lands.

For maestro Gil Jardim, director of Osusp, the invitation to the Argentine artists was very special. “Gorelik is a professional of vast experience, with enormous transit with European, American orchestras, with an immense repertoire with concert music, with opera, with ballets, a figure who has a very keen perception of music on the world stage. That always interests us. With him will be a great soloist, Eduardo Isaac, who works with orchestras all over the world.”
Maestro Gil Jardim, director of Osusp talks with Elcio Silva, presenter of Cultura na USP program, about the July 1st concert. Program broadcast by Rádio USP on 29/06/2023
Professor of orchestral conducting at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA – AR) and titular director of the Orquestra Filarmônica de Entre Ríos, a province in the northeast of the country, located between the Paraná and Uruguay rivers, Luis Gorelik will perform Ludwig Van Beethoven’s famous Symphony No.3 in E-flat Major, Op.55, also known as “Eroica”, a composition that had been dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, but the tribute was torn by the composer as soon as the then military leader proclaimed himself emperor.
With a solo by Eduardo Isaac, the presentation is completed by Suite Argentina, for guitar and orchestra, by composer Eduardo Falú, considered an icon of the country’s music. In six movements, Carnavalito, Misachico, Bailecito, Zamba, Estilo and Malambo, the work brings together traditional rhythms of the country.

Eduardo Falú was an Argentine violonist, singer and composer. He is the author of fundamental works of the Argentinian folkloric repertoire, the musical genre most representative of traditional Argentine culture and country life. Recognized worldwide, he is the author of works such as “Zamba de la Candelaria” and “Tonada del viejo amor”. Image | Album A qué volver from the collection Sentir El Folklore.
The choice for Gorelik highlights Argentine culture. “In this cycle Esculpir o tempo, I usually ask them to bring songs characteristic of their country. The Suite Argentina is a work by the composer Eduardo Falú, an icon of the music of his country, an artist who has produced songs that always touch the Argentine soul “, exalts Jardim.
