The Ouro Preto Orchestra arrives at the USP Butantã campus bringing one of its greatest hits, “Ouro Preto Orchestra: The Beatles.” The unique presentation will take place next Monday, December 4, at 8:00 p.m. at the Camargo Guarnieri Cultural Center. Free tickets can be obtained online through the Sympla platform. Carried out through the Federal Law for the Incentive of Culture, it has the support of the USP Pro-Rectorate for Culture and University Extension.

Acclaimed by audiences and critics throughout Brazil, the orchestra’s tribute originated from an unusual combination: the union, on the same stage, of a string formation and a rock band. This irreverent mix resulted in two tributes from the Minas Gerais-based orchestra, offering the audience a true dive into the work of the band led by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

The recognition went beyond the borders of the country, celebrated with effusive applause also in England, when it was presented at the “International Beatle Week” in Liverpool, in three praised concerts that made the Orchestra the first in the world to participate in the traditional event for Beatles fans from around the world.

Under the direction of Rodrigo Toffolo, the repertoire covers the entire artistic production period of the English quartet, with classics such as “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” among other anthems of the quartet that enchanted the world and changed the history of 20th-century music.

“Classics are like that. You spend your whole life reading Guimarães Rosa and listening to Beethoven. And the Beatles are already part of that. It’s the power of music when it comes to a classic: everyone wants to listen to it always. And, every time, it’s a different experience,” analyzes Toffolo.
