The festive event will have free performances over two weekends at Cidade Universitária
The Coral Universidade de São Paulo (Coralusp) promotes, from the second half of June on, the 14th edition of the Coralusp Festival.
The free, open performances will be held at the Anfiteatro Camargo Guarnieri, at USP’s Butantã campus, on the weekends of June 16th to 18th and 23rd to 25th.
The concerts will take place on Friday nights, Saturday mornings and evenings, and Sunday mornings and afternoons.
Besides the 12 groups from Coralusp and the Laboratório Coral (Choral Laboratory) from the Department of Music of the School of Communications and Arts, the choirs from the public universities Unesp, Unicamp, and Unifesp and independent ensembles from the countryside of São Paulo were invited.
Artistic director Eduardo Fernandes highlights that youth groups, such as the Coral Jovem do Estado, also participate “as a way to support these artistic works at an age when it is not always easy for young people to sing”.
He explains that, for various reasons, “people sing when they are children and then when they are a little older. In adolescence many people run away from the choir, in a super rich time of life when making music ends up being very important. So, we are keeping the youth choirs in this edition of the Festival. And they will have the opportunity to see other groups, of the same age, to reinforce this work.
The conductor reinforces the invitation for the public to attend this “celebration of choral singing,” in performances that will be “very valuable and rewarding for the singers”.
